We apply a behavioural approach to shifting energy consumer behaviour.
The laws of human decision-making are very different both from the laws of physics, and the laws of supply and demand. Energy is an industry dominated by engineering and economics professionals, and rightly so.
Those skills and perspectives remain absolutely fundamental to the continuing success of the industry. But the behaviour of consumers is not the behaviour of machines, materials and markets.
From an engineering or economic perspective, one might expect that energy consumers will objectively weigh up the costs and benefits of the alternatives on offer, respond rationally to the price signals you’re sending them, and arrive at a household energy solution that maximizes their utility. Except, that’s not how 90% of energy consumers really behave.
We're in the business of helping you understand why consumers do what they do, and how to get them to do it differently. This is called 'Behavioural Economics'. Behavioural Economics is about using psychological theory to understand human decision-making and behaviour, and psychological methods to actually shift that behaviour in the desired direction, for example, toward greater:
Over the past two decades, our Principal Directors - Dr Karen Stenner and Dr Mark Fischle - have conducted (via their own enterprise or other major organisations) literally hundreds of randomised controlled trials (RCTs) for major energy retailers and distributers, federal and state government departments, non-profits and consumer advocacy groups, multi-national corporations and world-class universities, in both the U.S. and Australia.
